Retrofitting
JARS Sales and Services Ltd. retrofitted the Dominican mobile shops of two telecommunications giants: mobile company AT&T and Cable and Wireless (LIME).
For both companies, JARS put in sheetrock partitions and laminates that accommodated promotional fixtures and illuminated signage. JARS also installed new furniture and fittings, and for AT&T set up a network room, which included electrification and air-conditioning.
Courts Dominica, the leading furniture and appliance retailer in the Caribbean selected JARS to implement the complete remerchandising of its branch in the town of Portsmouth and the flagship retail store in the capital Roseau.
JARS upgraded all three floors of the Courts main building, while allowing the business to operate normally during the entire project. The resulting effects were the enhanced showcasing of the company’s display areas, signature brand and improvement of the customer experience.
Remodeling
In the Caribbean, the continuous threat of hurricanes presents ongoing challenges for infrastructural development and JARS is continually upgrading its construction techniques to mitigate the vulnerability of the structures that it erects against such disasters. Whether you are renovating an old home, or remodeling a bathroom, kitchen or bedroom, you can create your dream home with the right planning and the right contractors… JARS of course.
With the growing influence and lobbying of S.H.A.P.E (The Society for Historic Architecture, Preservation & Enhancement), the restoration of colonial properties is evolving as a major movement in Dominica. JARS has been part of the process, with demonstrative work on the restoration of colonial architecture. We are adept at restoring colonial "gingerbread" homes with their intricate lattice, fretwork and stonework.
Restoration
JARS Sales and Services Ltd. embraces the philosophy and objectives of S.H.A.P.E (Society for Historic Architecture, Preservation & Enhancement) and encourages its clients, wherever possible, to preserve the character of historic properties.
The company has worked on the restoration of three prominent "gingerbread" buildings in the city of Roseau. JARS took great care to recreate and repair the historic designs of these buildings and hired skilled artisans to rebuild certain sections, such as the fretwork and stone pointing, using traditional methods with modern materials. The buildings on 17 Kennedy Avenue, 38 Great George Street, and 19 Castle Street, all in the city of Roseau, are good representatives of the company’s restoration works.
Lady of Fair Haven Roman Catholic Cathedral
In 2012, JARS Sales & Services Ltd. was selected by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Roseau in Dominica, for a historical restoration project,
JARS executed the first phase of the roof renovation project for the 150 year old Lady of Fair Haven Cathedral. Originally constructed of volcanic rock, the Gothic, Romanesque Revival style Cathedral is one of the most prominent landmarks in Dominica and the OECS and a major tourist attraction.
Headed by talented and highly experienced General Foreman, Hoist Joseph, the JARS Cathedral project team helped to demolish the original roof, Marian chapel and choir loft.
The team of skilled artisans, replicated the interior arched beam design and intricate details of the Cathedral’s columns. The circumference was increased and the columns were constructed using modern reinforced concrete.
The foundation of the Cathedral was reinforced and deepened, while the perimeter walls were strengthened with concrete in order to accommodate the weight of the new steel frame structured roof, to be installed in the final phase. JARS was given the additional assignment to redesign and rebuild the Cathedral Choir Loft.
